Dear Sir/Madam:
I am writing to inquire about the available collegiate Basketball Coach position within your organization.  My résumé is enclosed for your review and consideration.
I recently completed my fifth year as Head Coach at Weequahic High School in Newark, New Jersey.  During my tenure, I have acquired a wealth of experience designing comprehensive athletic programs that provide youth the tools, guidance and behavioral concepts required to achieve excellence.  These programs incorporated academic achievement, physical fitness, entrepreneurship and the pursuit of higher education into the complex vision of player development.  They were built on an approach that directly identifies and nurtures specific areas of strength identified in each participant, while targeting and implementing development strategies in areas where improvement was required.
I have conditioned many athletes that have persistently exceeded in their sport including Keon Lawrence who began as the starting point guard for the University of Missouri and now attends Seton Hall University as well as Tajadine Smith who was drafted to the NFL and currently plays for the Indianapolis Colts.
During the last five years, I have consecutively received numerous letters of intent from Division I and Division II colleges for student athletes.  I presently work for Newark Public Schools as an Attendance/Dropout Prevention Counselor developing interactive programs specifically designed to integrate a variety of flexible instructional approaches and strategies to effectively modify critical choices, therefore reducing behavior risks.
In December 2010, I graduated from Farleigh Dickinson University with a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration.  I have earned a certificate in Sports Management Worldwide (Basketball GM & Scouting) and since 2007, I have been an active member of the Black Coaches Association.
I recently accepted and welcomed the challenging position of Head Coach of Boys Basketball at Arts High School, also located in Newark.  With a record of winning a total of 3 games in the last five years, morale as well as the recruitment rate was extremely low, though many players displayed talent.  By pinpointing strengths and developing skills and technique, I single-handedly lead the team to the State Tournament, achieving a total of six wins in one season.  I consistently dedicate my time to the betterment of youth in underprivileged areas and I continue to develop comprehensive programs conducive to youth to build character, facilitate talent and foster academic success.  I recognize the need for young athletes to be fully equipped with the ability to compete on and off the court as I strive to develop each player athletically, academically and personally.
Although I have enjoyed my tenure with various educational institutions, I look forward to challenging positions that allow me to demonstrate the full potential of my educational background and experience, further broadening my knowledge in the sport of basketball.  I am confident that my knowledge and expertise will be an asset to your organization.
I will be happy to further discuss my qualifications with you at your convenience and I look forward to hearing from you.
