Rebecca Ann Lucero — known by many as Becca, LuLu, or L&B (“Love and Basketball”) — is a dedicated coach, athlete, and United States Navy veteran whose life reflects resilience, leadership, and passion both on and off the court.

Born and raised in the small country town of Aragon, New Mexico, Rebecca grew up on a ranch where she learned to work on cars, hunt, play sports, and appreciate the outdoors. The third of six siblings, she developed an early sense of responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance — values that continue to define her life and career.

A proud single mother to her son Donovan, Rebecca credits him as her greatest motivation and the driving force behind every decision she makes. Her strength, ambition, and faith have guided her through challenges, shaping her into a confident and versatile individual who believes deeply in turning obstacles into opportunities. Guided by faith and family, she trusts that everything else will unfold exactly as it’s meant to.

Music was Rebecca’s first love. During her youth, she played the flute and alto saxophone and still enjoys singing karaoke. At 19, she joined the U.S. Navy, where she served honorably for nearly 11 years (March 2000 – December 2010) as an engineer. During her service, she was stationed on three ships and one shore duty rotation, thriving in a male-dominated environment where she earned respect through hard work, integrity, and leadership. Her time in the Navy instilled in her the values of discipline, perseverance, professionalism, teamwork, and accountability — qualities she continues to bring to her athletic and coaching pursuits.

Rebecca’s lifelong passion for sports — especially basketball —flourished during her military career. Her athleticism and enjoyment for maintaining a healthy lifestyle attributes to her fulfillment in helping others achieve the same. She earned a position on her ships’ men’s basketball teams winning multiple 1st and 2nd place trophies, helping coordinate women’s tournaments and co-ed competitions. Known for her tenacity and love of the game, she proudly carried the nickname “Love and Basketball”. Beyond basketball, she also challenged herself by joining her ship’s flag football team, demonstrating her competitive spirit and athletic versatility.

After her military service, Rebecca pursued her passion for coaching and youth development. She currently holds a Level 3 Athletic Coaching License through the State of New Mexico, along with NFHS certifications, including Level 1 Accredited Interscholastic Coach, Level 2 Certified Interscholastic Coach, and High School Heads Up Football Coach Certification.

Rebecca has contributed hundreds of hours to community service and youth sports. She has coached boys and girls basketball from Kindergarten through High School, as well as track and cross country. Her teams have achieved multiple successful seasons, including an undefeated championship run. She has also coached at the high school level, serving as volunteer C-team Boys Basketball Coach at Moriarty High School, then leveled up to JV Girls Basketball Coach at Rio Grande High School, where she assisted with Varsity and C-team. For Rebecca, the most rewarding part of coaching is witnessing her athletes’ growth — both in skill and character. She teaches a “strive to win” mindset, emphasizing discipline, teamwork, and respect. She aspires to build strong bonds that extend beyond the game.

Committed to lifelong learning, Rebecca continues to expand her expertise in sports management and athlete development. She earned a Basketball General Manager and Scouting Certificate and an Athlete Branding & Marketing Certificate and is currently completing coursework in Basketball Apprenticeship through Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW) — programs focused on front office operations and professional advancement in the sports industry.

Academically, Rebecca is a graduate of the University of New Mexico, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems Management and a Minor in Athletic Coaching. She also holds an Associate Degree in General Science Studies from UNM, an IT Security Associate Degree from New Horizons, and a Master’s in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University, where she graduated Valedictorian. Additionally, she completed college with a Master's Certificate for Teaching at New Mexico Highlands University.

Rebecca’s academic and professional experiences span business, IT, marketing, communication, leadership, and athletics. Her entrepreneurial drive continues to guide her toward personal and professional growth within the sports industry. As a coach and mentor, she is dedicated to empowering athletes to build confidence, discipline, and self-worth — skills that extend far beyond the court.

Rebecca believes that sports are a foundation for personal development, teaching responsibility, independence, and resilience. Her goal is to inspire athletes not only to succeed in competition but also to pursue their own goals and dreams with passion and purpose.
